Frequently Asked Questions

What is the processing time for a license application?

We strive to process each application in a timely manner, however, the processing time does vary for each applicant as there are situations which can delay the process.  For example, an incomplete application, waiting for documents/verifications to arrive, rejection of fingerprints, and a lack of cooperation from the applicant can delay the process. The processing of the Criminal History Record Check is currently from two - four weeks.

How can I obtain fingerprint cards?

The Board office will mail you a Criminal History Record Check packet after you submit your application.  We are not authorized to mail the packet until the application has been received. All information for the completion of the Criminal History Record Check, including the instructions, fees, application, and fingerprint cards will be included in that packet.

What is the application fee?

The application fee for chiropractic licensure is $300.00.

The fee for the Criminal History Record Check is $41.25.

What is the best way for me to check the status of my application?

If you submitted your application online, you may check your application status by going to the Quick Links section located at the bottom of the home page and clicking on Application Status or under the Chiropractors/Application/Application Status.  If none of the items are checked as received or completed, it likely means that your application has not been processed so please allow time for this to occur.

If you submitted your application via paper and mailed it to us, you will need to email the board office for status updates.

I am applying for a license/certification in another state and they need verification of my North Dakota license.  What do I need to do?

See the Request License Verification page.

Can a license be issued without receipt of the federal/state background check?

No chiropractic license will be issued without the Board having the results of the federal and state background checks, therefore, it is extremely important to complete the criminal history record check packet as soon as possible after it is received and return it to the Board to allow ample time for processing.  Fingerprints may be rejected due to low characteristics of the prints and/or for other reasons and if this happens, and applicant must submit two additional fingerprint cards.  If an applicant’s prints are rejected a second time, a name search will be conducted.  However, name searches tend to take longer than the normal fingerprint-based background checks.

I previously held a North Dakota chiropractic license and allowed it to lapse.  Do I have to complete the whole application packet if I am re-applying for my ND license?

Yes, you will be required to complete the license application.  However, you will not be required to resubmit your chiropractic college transcript or your national board examination scores (unless you have completed additional exams since your original licensure).  If your license has been lapsed for less than 2 years, please contact the Board office.

What is required for verification of my license to the Secretary of State’s office for purposes of forming a professional corporation?

The Board has the required form available in our office to fill out or you may share your own form.  Please indicate where we are to send or email the completed verification of licensure, i.e., directly to the Secretary of State’s office, your attorney’s office, or back to you.  You can find the required form here. Please complete or provide the information for boxes #2, #3, and #4 with your request.

My chiropractic license is on the Inactive status. How do I reactivate it?

On the Home Page, select Chiropractors - Inactive License – Reactivation of an Inactive License.

How do I get a duplicate annual license renewal certificate?

If you need a duplicate annual license renewal certificate, you may reprint the certificate by going to Print License (Chiropractors menu) or you may contact the board office and a certificate will be emailed to you.  There is no fee for duplicate renewal certificates.

How do I get a duplicate license certificate?

If you want a duplicate license (ornamental/professionally printed certificate), the charge is $25.00.  Please send a check to the Board (we do not accept credit cards for this transaction) along with your request for a duplicate or replacement license.  This also applies for changes to your legal name.  Please note, it may take up to 6-months to receive your new certificate.

How do I change my contact information?

You may make any contact information changes by selecting Update Contact Info found in the Chiropractors and Chiropractic Assistants Menus.

How do I log in to renew my license (chiropractors)?
