Continuing Education Requirements

Overview

All active license holders shall complete a minimum of 20-hours of approved continuing chiropractic education per year to coordinate with the annual license renewal cycle (September 1st – September 1st of each year).  Verification of completion or copies of official transcripts must be submitted to the Board with the annual license renewal.  License renewal will not be granted if the continuing education has not been completed.  There are no restrictions for distance education.

It is the chiropractor's responsibility to submit completion verifications and/or transcripts to the Board.  Do not assume that the program sponsor will automatically submit records to the Board.

Professional Boundary Hours

All licensees must complete a total of 4-hours of professional boundary study every three years, prior to the renewal of their licenses.  These hours are a part of the total 20-hours of continuing education required annually and will be credited to the year they are completed.  These hours are not above and beyond the annual 20 required hours.

The current 3-year cycle for all chiropractic license holders is:  September 1, 2018 through September 1, 2021.

Acupuncture Continuing Education Hours

Any license holder, who is authorized by the board to practice needle acupuncture, must complete, as a part of the licensed chiropractors’ annual requirement, 2-hours of continuing education in acupuncture or acupuncture-related subjects.  These hours are a part of the total 20 continuing education hours required annually, not above and beyond the 20 required hours.
