Phishing Scam Alert
10/29/2019The MN Board of Chiropractic Examiners has shared information with us regarding a Phishing Scam that has been occurring in their state. We are not aware of any incidences occurring in ND but felt it important to pass along the information to all of you. Below is the information from Minnesota:
Be wary of phone calls demanding confidential information such as Social Security numbers or threatening legal or criminal action. Scammers are able to mimic known phone numbers in your caller ID making it appear that the Board is calling. The scammers claim they are from a Federal Law Enforcement Agency and they utilize public information such as license numbers and NPI numbers as means of identification. They have utilized fax, email, and phone calls – some have even set up conference calls in attempt to get the license holder to comply. The callers have threatened that licenses will be taken away unless payment is made immediately. This has occurred with a variety of medical providers – it is not chiropractic specific.
The DEA provided a press release regarding these scams in March 2019. Here is a link to that information: https://www.dea.gov/press-releases/2019/03/13/dea-warns-alarming-increase-scam-calls
